My name is Jim “Big Daddy” Uribe and I play pong. I figured that before I could start showing you how to play pong I should give you a little history. When I was in my twenties I started a new job at a furniture factory in southern California. On my first day I was given a tour and while on that tour and immediately afterward was given safety training, taught how to use specific tools, how to build frames and what my daily quota had to be to keep my job.
The whole training process took less than three hours and I was on my own. As soon as training was done, I was given my first break. I hadn’t brought a lunch so I went to the roach coach (Lunch Wagon for the sophisticated types out there,)to grab a quick snack. On the way toward the employee break room I heard loud yelling, clapping and laughing. I had to see what was going on so I peeked in the window. There were fifteen to twenty guys standing around a pong table and two guys were battling it out pong style.

Being young and dumb, I sprung open the door and said, “What’s going on?” Simultaneously from at least four of the guys I heard “Sit down and shut up, just watch”. Being new, I did as I was told and watched average looking guys battle back and forth from one side to another. Each was a master of the game and did things with that little ball I thought were impossible.  Their skill amazed me; I had never seen anything like it. It took only a few minutes of watching and I was hooked on one of the greatest sports around Pong.  To be continued…
